2019 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2019 BMW X2

Crossovers are all the rage in Worcester, MA because they have the safety and high seating position they want from an SUV, while also being easy to maneuver and fuel-efficient. Patrick Mazda has a wide range of 2019 Mazda CX-5 crossover models that compare well to compact luxury SUVs. If you're curious about how the new CX-5 stacks up against the 2019 BMW X2, read on to see why it's a better value for the price.

  • Value: The 2019 Mazda CX-5 has a starting price that's over $12,000 less than the 2019 BMW X2's base model. But even if you go with the CX-5's top-level trim, it still costs only about $400 more than the X2's entry-level model. Framingham drivers would have to pay almost $10,000 more for the highest X2 trim than they would for the CX-5's top-level Signature model. With Nappa leather upholstery, wood trim, all-wheel drive, and a head-up display, the Mazda CX-5 Signature has a lot to offer at a lower cost than the BMW X2.
  • Comfort: Both the new Mazda CX-5 and the new BMW X2 have cozy, spacious seats. Surprisingly, the CX-5 actually has more second-row headroom than does the X2. People in Marlborough who like to take a lot of stuff on the road with them will appreciate that the Mazda CX-5 also has over 9 cubic feet more cargo space with its back seats folded than does that BMW X2.
  • Performance: Both the 2019 Mazda CX-5 and the 2019 BMW X2 have muscular engines and agile handling. They also have comparable gas mileage ratings and a comfortable ride. However, most people agree that the CX-5 has more responsive steering than the X2, thanks to its well-tuned electric power steering.
  • Control: While BMW vehicles typically have well-built suspensions, the Mazda CX-5 does, too. It has an independent suspension at all four corners and standard G-Vectoring Control for a smoother, less fatiguing drive. It also has a re-tuned chassis with a traction-control mode that brakes wheels to shift the CX-5's weight in turns. The BMW X2 has a stiffer chassis that gives it engaging driving dynamics, but not quite as silky of a ride as the CX-5.

  • Technology: Although the BMW X2 is classified as a luxury SUV, it's tech features are not quite as impressive as the Mazda CX-5's in some areas, including the infotainment system. The CX-5's standard infotainment system features a 7-inch touch screen, while the X2 comes standard with a 6.5-inch touch screen. Drivers in Shrewsbury, MA will like that the CX-5's system also comes with voice command, so they can operate it hands-free for safer driving. The X2's infotainment system does not offer voice command.
  • Safety: Just as might expect, the new BMW X2 has a slew of available driver assistance features. Unfortunately, you have to pay more for a higher trim to get them. The new Mazda CX-5 comes standard with a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and low-speed automatic braking. The only standard active safety features in the X2 are a rearview camera with front and rear parking sensors.
